Dr. Winifred Nweke is a tenured Professor and the Director of Assessment in the School
of Education at Clayton State University, Morrow, Georgia. She has a Ph.D. in Measurement and
Experimentation in Education from the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada; a Post-Doctoral
Fellowship from the University of Michigan; an MBA from Eastern Michigan University and a
B.Sc. in Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria.
Before coming to Clayton State, Dr. Nweke taught at Tuskegee University (1987-1997).
She later served as the Coordinator for Research & Evaluation at the Georgia Professional
Standards Commission (GAPSC), a state agency that oversees educator preparation and
certification/licensing in the state of Georgia (1997-2013). Dr. Winifred Nweke has conducted
research and published works in both Education and Business and presented numerous papers in
both areas at professional conferences. She is a successful grant writer. Dr. Nweke has written
and managed many grants from such grantors as Department of Defense Dependents’ Schools
(DoDDS), United Negro College Funds (UNCF)/Prudential, University of Michigan and Clayton
State University, and has served as a Consultant to many research grants and projects. Her
research interests include educator workforce supply and demand, Candidates Dispositions
Assessment, Validity and Reliability evidence of assessments and instruments. Her preparation
and experience in the areas of Educational Measurement, Research, Assessment and Evaluation
has made her acutely aware of the special needs of many children in our schools.
Dr. Winifred Nweke is a member of professional organizations such as the American
Educational Research Association (AERA), Georgia Educational Research Association (GERA),
Georgia Association of Directors of Assessment (GADA), and American Association of
Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE). She serves as a peer reviewer for journals published
by these professional associations.
Dr. Nweke is actively involved with the Nigerian Community. She was the first Vice-
President (2001-2003) and the second president of the Nigerian Women Association of Georgia
(NWAG) (2003-2005), a non-profit organization that empowers women, the youth and children
through education and wellness initiatives. Dr. Nweke was the Vice-President of Alliance of
Nigerian Organizations in Georgia (ANOG) (2009-2013), the first Secretary (2000-2003), later a
Financial Secretary (2006-2009) and Vice President (2015-2021) of the Orumba Civic Union,
Atlanta. She served as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) (2012-2014), a member of the Board
of Directors (2014-2018) and the Vice President (2018-2022) of the University of Nigeria
Alumni and Friends Association (UNN-USA), Inc.; and a past president of the Atlanta Chapter
of UNN-USA (2009-2013). She received numerous awards from many of these organizations.
She participates in several events and activities such as conferences, symposia, picnics,
etc. in the Nigerian community in the Metro-Atlanta Region. Dr. Nweke has presented at
conferences on Women’s and Youth issues, and specifically on the Elimination and Prevention
of Violence against Women and Girls.
Dr. Nweke is the author of two books: Gabriel N. A. Ejeckam: The Visionary Leader; A
Family Story (2000), published by Fair and Square, Ltd, Nigeria and A Guide to Choosing your
Children’s Schools and Monitoring Their School Experiences (2014), published by Friesen
Press and available on Amazon. She has published numerous scholarly papers in professional
journals and presents regularly at professional conferences.
